Letters to our community

Dearest Camp Friends and Family,

I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy.

Today, we made the announcement that Girl Scouts of Colorado has canceled all summer camp programs through July 31. With so much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and the high health risk involved of gathering and living together in large groups, we had to take the safe and smart course.

Tomahawk Ranch has been a summer experience for girls since 1953, so, as you can imagine, this was not an easy decision. It was made with great care and hard deliberation, with advice from public health experts, and consultation with the GSCO Board of Directors, GSUSA and other camp organizations and partnerships.

Tomahawk Ranch has been a part of my life since 1989, when I started camping as a young Girl Scout and back in 2007, a dream of mine came true when I took the role and blessing of becoming Tomahawk’s camp director. The heartache of not providing a summer camp experience is real and strongly felt. But, in the end, it comes down to the safety and well-being of us all.

In these uncertain times, it is important to remember what camp is about -- the friendships, connections with each other, nature and animals, and the self-growth and awareness we all experience.

With this, I hope you all continue to be a part of Tomahawk’s story and growth. We look forward to our continued outreach and programming on our social media platforms, we hope you have enjoyed the content as much as we have had developing it!

In future’s time, I look to welcome you all back to Tomahawk Ranch and her skies of blue!

Here’s wishing joys to you,

Obi Joe,

Camp Director, Tomahawk Ranch
